HyperCore on Hyperliquid
HyperCore is Hyperliquid's financial execution engine — a Rust matching engine running fully on-chain, not a simulation and not an off-chain sequencer. Every order, cancel, trade, liquidation and funding payment is recorded on the public ledger under the same HyperBFT consensus that secures the rest of the network.
At its heart is an on-chain Central Limit Order Book with price-time priority — the same primitive used by NYSE, NASDAQ and the major CEXs, but settled natively on-chain. Execution is deterministic, so there is no black-box matching engine to trust. Order placement, cancellation and modification are gas-free for end users: the protocol's economic model absorbs the cost, removing the friction that historically made on-chain order books unusable.
Prices for perpetual markets come from a robust oracle: validators submit spot prices from multiple exchanges, and the median is used, making single-venue manipulation expensive. A cross-margin system lets traders use their whole portfolio as collateral across perps and spot at once. The engine handles ~200,000 orders per second — enough for market making, statistical arbitrage and delta-neutral strategies at institutional scale.
